CANTILENA PICTURES

Rebecca founded the production company Cantilena Pictures in 2021 to make films focussing on music and its role in people’s lives.

Her debut short film ‘Resonance’ – which she wrote/directed/produced and scored – was supported by Eastside and the Arts Council NI. Shot during lockdown in Derry in 2021, the film premiered at the BIFA-qualifying NEIFF in 2022 and received two nominations at The British Short Film Awards 2021 (including for Best Original Score), as well as several other award wins and nominations at festivals internationally. The film’s soundtrack earned Rebecca a nomination for the Horizon Award at the International Sound & Film Music Festival (ISFMF). ‘Resonance’ can be watched below.

The company’s second short film ‘Music to Die For’ was shot in Bennigans Jazz Bar, Derry. Tackling the story of The Troubles from a music-focussed lens, the film currently on its festival run. It had its world premiere at the Louth International Film Festival and has since gone on to screen in numerous festivals across the UK, Ireland and America, and secured Rebecca her second ISFMF nomination. It has been described by critics including Short Films Matter and UK Film Review as ‘an emotional and powerful short’ and a ‘gripping exploration and…powerful meditation on a turbulent past’. Watch the film’s trailer below.

Rebecca has more short scripts in development for her company discussing the themes of female trauma and neurodivergence, which she hopes to produce in the near future.
