Rebecca Doherty is an award-winning media and concert composer, filmmaker, multi-instrumentalist and singer from Ireland and now based in London. Known for her strength in fusing Early and Irish traditional music with other genres to create a distinct compositional voice, Rebecca has scored numerous short and feature films, theatre productions, podcasts, video games and commercials. Her music has featured at the Edinburgh Fringe and on BBC Radio Ulster.
Recent projects include the TV series 'Prig' from Verve Bee Media (2024-present), and the Waterside Theatre/An Amharclann Gaoth Dobhair co-production of ‘Observe the Sons of Ulster’ that toured around NI and Donegal (2023). She was nominated for the Horizon Award at the International Sound & Film Music Festival 2022 and for Best Original Score at The British Short Film Awards 2021 for her score for the drama film 'Resonance'. She frequently collaborates with the production company Loud Voices Silent Streets, having scored their feature film 'After Mum' (2022) and five of their short films.
Rebecca’s concert works have been performed by groups including the Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble, the Bristol Ensemble, Green Opera, Inter Alios Choir and The Phoenix Music Society. She won both the IMRO Award for Chamber Ensemble Composition and the Walter Beckett Cup for Original Song at ESB Feis Ceoil 2023, and her HRSE x PRSf commission ‘Right Thoughts, Not Always Right Order’ was premiered in 2024. In 2019, she composed the piece ‘There is Hope’ to accompany the award-winning book Children of the Troubles by RTE's Joe Duffy and Freya McClements. It premiered at the book’s launch in Belfast.

Beginning her music career as a performer at age 6, Rebecca quickly reached Grade 8 Distinction level in six different instruments and in classical singing. Her primary instrument soon became the recorder, on which she won multiple competitions at ESB Feis Ceoil and the Overall Instrumentalist Award sponsored by RTE Lyric FM at Sligo Feis Ceoil. She obtained her BA in Music from the University of Cambridge and her MA in Film Composition from the University of Bristol. During her studies, she was principal conductor of two symphony orchestras, as well as conducting several choirs.
A BFI Network x BAFTA Crew alumna, Rebecca has been supported by the PRS Foundation, Arts Council NI, Community Foundation NI and Eastside during her career so far.
